LYRICS

Spring came and went like a through train
And left her at a starting point again
Like every year before
She sees an open door
But living interferes
And the passing of the years
Seems to consume her
And still she hopes to be
A late bloomer

Gifted with the music of an angel
The melodies she's written haven't fared well
Cos every time she tries
To make her music fly
Crazy working hours
And the family's needs somehow
The time eludes her
And still she hopes to be
A late bloomer

Opportunities, elusive like a butterfly
Settled on another flower sooner
The autumn of the seasons will be her cue
P
etals will unfurl, her colors showing true...
Like a late bloomer

Early birds have been and gone before her
Summer's soaring highs have now restored her
She has paid her dues
She's ready through and through
The waiting time is over
Fulfillment has its moment
With music that will fly her to the moon
So glad she got to be
A late bloomer

THE STORY

This is my story. I began writing songs and piano sketches when I was a little girl. I still remember the time my mother told me "the man from the radio (Australian composer Lindley Evans) called to ask if this song I sent him was really my work?" My mom had written the poetry and at about 9 years of age, I wrote the music for my first song.  It was ultimately performed on National Radio. I've since written all kinds of music, including a cycle of songs for choral performance in the late 1980s. I've wanted to record a CD of my songs for what seems like an eternity. With this album I will officially become a "Late Bloomer," and will hopefully leave my mark as a successful songwriter. I have to thank my Mum, Elaine Edwards, and my good friend Alice Stuart, for being such a great inspiration. As musicians and performers they both rock!

Vocalist Tara Ward knocked me out on this song. The song is vocally challenging and Tara's beautiful voice brought me to tears. To learn more about Tara and her band Late Tuesday, please visit the Late Tuesday website. Tara is another gifted singer/songwriter on this project, and if you are in Western Washington or Oregon and can make it to one of her concerts, you are in for a real treat.
